Vermilion Lakes and Mount Rundle; Banff National Park
This photo was taken at sunrise in February 2003, during my very first trip to Canada. It was then that the idea for "Project Canada" started taking shape.
It was the very first sunrise that I witnessed in Canada, and I was hooked immediately. The cold (I ran out of the car so fast to start shooting that I forgot to put on my gloves and only after about ten minutes did I find out that I couldn't really move my fingers anymore (it was -15C)), the amount of snow (so very much more than what we get in the Netherlands), the marvelous scenery and the incredible and relatively abundant wildlife all worked together to create an atmosphere that was so unlike what I knew until then, that I immediately knew that I wanted to learn more about the area. That feeling has only grown so far!
