Chilkoot Lake, Alaska
Chilkoot Lake is about ten kilomters away from the town of Haines in Southeastern Alaska. The lake is famous for its long salmon season from mid-June to mid-October and many are attracted to this bounty. Anglers aggregate here in large numbers during that period, but have to share the area with others homing in on this valuable food source: grizzly bears! Fortunately human fishers concentrate mostly on the lake and the grizzlies that come down from the tundra mostly target the short Chilkoot river running from the lake towards Lynn Canal, which is a long fjord leading to the Pacific Ocean. The fact that this usually goes without accidents is yet another prove of the fact that people and bears can share the same space in peace.
