Coyote
On the 20th of October, a huge amount of snow (certainly for a Dutchie like me) fell in a short time. The wildlife seemed to adapt to it in no time and this coyote was very busy loping through the field in search of something to eat. Several times it suddenly stopped in its tracks when it heard something shuffling underneath the snow. Then it would jump high into the sky and land with its front feet on top of the little rodent, which never saw the danger coming.
Coyotes are amongst those animals that have actually profited from human influence. Despite having been mercilessly killed as pests in huge numbers, the populations have never been as large as they are now. Human activity has driven back wolves and bears, both of which will not hesitate to kill a coyote if they have a chance and feel like it. That has given the coyote room to prosper, and the fact that they are not nearly as shy as their larger cousins and can feed on almost anything has also contributed in making this a very successful animal.
