Elk bull

Bull Elk (Cervus elaphus) in Banff National Park, Alberta. Project Canada.

A completely new approach to wildlife photography for me: time exposures of moving animals! This bull elk was trying to keep his herd of females together, sometimes by aggressively approaching them and pushing them in the desired direction. When one sees that, it becomes a bit clearer that these huge animals have enormous strength. Still, people think it is fun and perfectly safe to walk closely towards them and have their picture taken with the elk. Surprisingly often the elk tolerate foolish behaviour like that, but sometimes it gets too much and they become aggressive. More people are seriously hurt by elk each year than by all large predators put together!
