Grizzly bear (Ursus arctos) fishing for salmon
Grizzly bears are also called brown bears. Most of them indeed can be said to be a shade of brown, ranging from light blonde to dark chocolate. Very often the guardhairs have lighter tips, giving the bears a grizzled look. This bear, however, shows none of those characteristics. It is a relatively rare black grizzly. Pelage colour seems to corelate somewhat to habitat. All colour phases, from blonde to black can occur anywhere within the range, but lighter bears are more often found in more open areas while darker bears are more commonly associated with darker forested habitats. Very dark or black grizzlies seem to be most common along coastal forested areas.
